Born Bryon Anthony McCane II on September 12, 1976, in Columbus, Ohio, Bizzy Bone is a Grammy-winning rapper, singer, and songwriter whose art has been forged by extraordinary adversity. At age four, he and his two sisters were kidnapped by their stepfather and held captive for nearly two years, moved through shelters, motels, and cars across multiple states before settling on a Native American reservation in Oklahoma. During captivity, he endured physical and sexual abuse. He was rescued in 1983 after a neighbor recognized his photo from a national missing-children broadcast. Placed in foster care and drawn into Cleveland's streets by his early teens, he found salvation in words, and eventually told the full story of his childhood in his autobiography, Inside a Bizzy Mind.

In 1991, Bizzy joined Bone Thugs-N-Harmony in Cleveland, and the group soon traveled to Los Angeles to audition for Eazy-E, who signed them to Ruthless Records. Their 1995 album E. 1999 Eternal debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and its single "Tha Crossroads" held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight consecutive weeks, earning the group a Grammy Award. The group has sold over sixteen million records worldwide. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are unique in hip-hop history, they are the only act to have recorded with all three of the genre's most iconic figures: Eazy-E, 2Pac, and The Notorious B.I.G.

Bizzy is recognized as a pioneer of chopper-style rap, a rapid-fire, double-time delivery fused with melodic harmonizing to create something wholly his own. Music analysts have described his flow as imagining musical time like a malleable piece of clay, layering vocal textures and shifting rhythmic frameworks mid-verse. But the technique is only part of the story. Bizzy is above all a wordsmith, a poet working in a rapper's body. Artists from Kendrick Lamar to Drake to Tech N9ne have cited Bone Thugs as foundational influences, with Chicago rapper Saba specifically crediting Bizzy's verse on "Notorious Thugz" as the moment that made him want to rap.
